1 And it happened that men began to increase in number on the face of the earth, and they had daughters, 2 and the sons of the mighty saw that the daughters of men were good looking, and they took as many wives as they wanted for themselves. 3 And Yehovah said, “My spirit will not contend in man to a distant age, because he also is flesh; so his days will be 120 years.” 4 The strong men were on the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of the mighty came in to the daughters of men and had children with them. Those were the mighty men who were from a distant age, famous men.
5 And Yehovah saw that the evil of mankind was great on the earth, and every product of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the day. 6 And Yehovah was sad because He made man on the earth, and it made Him heartbroken. 7 And Yehovah said, “I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the earth—from man, to large animals, to small animals, and to the birds of the sky—for I am sad because I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in Yehovah’s eyes.
9 This is the family history of Noah: Noah was a righteous man of integrity among the people of his time. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Yefet.
11 And the earth was ruined in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and look—it was ruined, because all flesh had ruined their way on the earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come in front of me, because the earth is filled with violence through them. Look, I will bring ruin on them along with the earth. 14 Make a ship of gopher wood. You are to make rooms in the ship, and seal it inside and outside with pitch. 15 This is how you shall make it: The length of the ship, 300 cubits; its width, 50 cubits; and its height, 30 cubits. 16 You shall make a skylight in the ship, and you shall finish it to a cubit upward. And you shall place the doorway of the ship in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels. 17 And I, even I, will bring the flood of waters on the earth, to bring ruin on all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the earth will die. 18 But I will establish my contract with you. And you shall come into the ship, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of each you shall bring into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They will be male and female. 20 Of the birds of every kind, of the livestock of every kind, of all small land animals of every kind, two of all living things will come to you, to keep them alive. 21 And you, take for yourself some of all food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be for food for you, and for them.” 22 And Noah did it. According to all that God commanded him, so he did.
