Genesis 45

1 Then Joseph couldn’t hold himself back to all those who stood around him, and he called out, “Take everyone out from around me!” And no one stood with him while Joseph revealed himself to his brothers. 2 Then he cried loudly, and the Egyptians heard it, and the house of Pharaoh heard it. 3 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?”

And his brothers couldn’t answer him because they were shocked in front of him. 4 And Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.”

And they came near. And he said, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt! 5 Now don’t worry and don’t be angry with yourselves because you sold me here, because God sent me ahead of you to save lives. 6 Because these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there will be no plowing and no harvest. 7 So God sent me ahead of you to preserve a remnant of you on the earth, and to save your lives by a great escape. 8 Therefore it wasn’t you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and master of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9 Hurry, and go up to my father, and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says, “God has made me master of all Egypt. Come down to me. Don’t stand around! 10 You will live in the land of Goshen, and you will be near to me, you and your children, your children’s children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have. 11 I will provide support for you there, because there are still five years of famine, so you won’t become poor, you and your household and all that you have.”’ 12 Now look! Your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that is speaking to you. 13 So you must tell my father about all my splendor in Egypt, and everything that you have seen. And you must hurry and bring my father down here!” 14 And he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin’s neck and cried, and Benjamin cried on his shoulder. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and cried on them. And afterwards his brothers talked with him.

16 Now the report of it was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, “Joseph’s brothers have come.” And it was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants. 17 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals, and go back to the land of Canaan. 18 And take your father and your households and come to me, and I will give you the good part of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the best of the land.’ 19 Now you are commanded—do this: Take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father and come. 20 And don’t concern yourselves about your belongings, because the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.”

21 Then the sons of Israel did so. And Joseph gave them wagons according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the trip. 22 He gave each one of them a set of new clothes, but to Benjamin he gave 300 pieces of silver and five sets of new clothes. 23 And he sent the following to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and provision for his father for the trip. 24 So he sent his brothers away, and they departed. And he said to them, “Don’t get stirred up on the way.”

25 Then they went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father. 26 And they told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and he rules in all the land of Egypt.” His heart fainted, because he didn’t believe them. 27 But they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them. And when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the breath of Jacob their father revived. 28 And Israel said, “Great! My son Joseph is still alive! I will go and see him before I die!”
