Genesis 11

And the whole earth had one language and one vocabulary. 2 And it was as they traveled from the east, they found a valley in the land of Shinar, and they lived there. 3 And they said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and bake them thoroughly.” And for them brick was like stone, and tar was like mortar. 4 And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, so we won’t be scattered abroad on the face of the whole earth.”

And Yehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men were building. 6 And Yehovah said, “Look! One people, and one language for all of them, and they start to do this! And now nothing that they plan to do will be held back from them. 7 Come, let’s go down, and mix up their language there, that they will not understand one another’s language.” 8 So Yehovah scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore its name was called Babylon (which sounds like Mixed-Up), because there Yehovah mixed up the language of all the earth. And from there, Yehovah scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

This is the family history of Shem: Shem was 100 years old when he had Arpachshad two years after the flood. 11 And Shem lived 500 years after he had Arpachshad, and had more sons and daughters.

And Arpachshad lived 35 years and had Shelaḥ. 13 And Arpachshad lived 403 years after he had Shelaḥ, and had more sons and daughters.

And Shelaḥ lived 30 years, and had Ever. 15 And Shelaḥ lived 403 years after he had Ever, and had more sons and daughters.

And Ever lived 34 years, and had Peleg. 17 And Ever lived 430 years after he had Peleg, and had more sons and daughters.

And Peleg lived 30 years, and had Re’u. 19 And Peleg lived 209 years after he had Re’u, and had more sons and daughters.

And Re’u lived 32 years, and had Serug. 21 And Re’u lived 207 years after he had Serug, and had more sons and daughters.

And Serug lived 30 years, and had Naḥor. 23 And Serug lived 200 years after he had Naḥor, and had more sons and daughters.

And Naḥor lived 29 years, and had Teraḥ. 25 And Naḥor lived 119 years after he had Teraḥ, and had more sons and daughters.

And Teraḥ lived 70 years, and had Abram, Naḥor, and Haran.

Now this is the family history of Teraḥ. Teraḥ had Abram, Naḥor, and Haran. And Haran had Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Teraḥ, in the land of his relatives, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 And Abram and Naḥor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Naḥor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah. 30 And Sarai was unable to have children. She had no child.

And Teraḥ took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, who was his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, who was his son Abram’s wife. And they went out from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go to the land of Canaan. And they came to Ḥarran and settled there. 32 And the days of Teraḥ were 205 years, and Teraḥ died in Ḥarran.
