1 Now Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she gave birth to Zimran and Yokshan, Medan and Midian, Yishbak and Shuah for him. 3 Yokshan had Sheva and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were the Asshurians, Letushians, and Le’ummians. 4 And the sons of Midian were Efah, Efer, Ḥanokh, Avida, and Elda’ah. All these were the children of Keturah. 5 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac, 6 but Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines that Abraham had. And while he was still alive he sent them away from Isaac his son, eastward, to the east country.
7 Now these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: 175 years. 8 And Abraham passed away and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Tzoḥar the Hittite, which is near Mamre, 10 the field which Abraham purchased from the Hittites. Abraham was buried there and Sarah his wife. 11 And it was, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac settled by the Well-of-the-Living-One-Seeing-Me.
12 Now this is the family history of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s servant, gave birth to for Abraham. 13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to the order of their birth: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nevayot, then Kedar, Adbe’el, Mivsam, 14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, 15 Hadad and Teima, Yetur, Nafish, and Kedmah. 16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their tribal communities. 17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. And he passed away and died, and was gathered to his people. 18 Now they lived from Ḥavilah to Shur (which is next to Egypt as you go toward Assyria). He settled all around his brothers.
19 Now this is the family history of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham had Isaac. 20 Isaac was 40 years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Betuel the Aramean of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. 21 Now Isaac pleaded with Yehovah for his wife, because she was unable to have children. And Yehovah granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife became pregnant. 22 Now the children were crushing each other inside of her, and she said, “If like this, why is this happening to me?” And she went to inquire of Yehovah. 23 And Yehovah said to her,
“Two nations are in your womb.
And two tribes will separate from inside you.
And one tribe will be stronger than the other tribe.
And the older will serve the younger.”
24 Now when her days to give birth were fulfilled, look, there were twins in her womb. 25 And the first came out red, like a fur coat all over. And they named him Esau (which means Rough). 26 And after that his brother came out, and his hand was grabbing on to Esau’s heel. And he was named Jacob (which means Heel-Grabber). And Isaac was 60 years old when she gave birth to them.
27 And the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the outdoors. And Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents. 28 Now Isaac loved Esau, because he ate his wild game. And Rebekah loved Jacob.
29 Now Jacob boiled stew. And Esau came in from the countryside, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with some of that red stuff, because I am exhausted.” Therefore his name was called Edom (which means Red).
31 And Jacob said, “Sell your birthright to me today.”
32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”
33 And Jacob said, “Swear to me now.”
And he swore to him and he sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew. And he ate and drank, got up, and went his way. So Esau disregarded his birthright.
