Genesis 33

1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and there, Esau was coming, and with him 400 men! And he divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two female servants. 2 And he put the female servants and their children in front, and Leah and her children behind them, and Rachel and Joseph behind them. 3 And he himself went on ahead of them, and bowed down to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 And Esau ran to meet him, and hugged him, and threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. And they cried. 5 And Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children and said, “Who are these with you?”

And he said, “The children whom God has favored your servant with.” 6 Then the female servants came near with their children, and they bowed down. 7 Then Leah also and her children came near, and bowed down. After them Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed down.

8 And Esau said, “What’s your reason for that whole camp that I encountered?”

And Jacob said, “To find favor in my master's eyes.”

9 And Esau said, “I have a lot, my brother; let what’s yours be yours.”

10 And Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your eyes, then take my present from my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you have accepted me. 11 Please take the blessing that I brought to you, because God has shown favor to me, and because I have everything.” And he urged him, and he took it.

12 And Esau said, “Let’s take our journey and go, and I will go along with you.”

13 But Jacob said to him, “My master knows that the children are weak, and that the flocks and herds in my care are nursing their young, and if they push them a single day all the flocks will die. 14 Please let my master go on ahead of his servant, and I will guide them gently, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my master in Se’ir.”

15 And Esau said, “Please let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.”

But Jacob said, “Why? Let me find favor in the eyes of my master.”

16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Se’ir. 17 And Jacob traveled to Sukkot and built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. That’s why they call the name of the place Sukkot (which means Shelters).

18 Now Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram. And he encamped facing the city. 19 And he bought the parcel of land where he had spread his tent, from the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for 100 kesitah. 20 And he erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel (which means God, the God of Israel).
