Genesis 13

1 And Abram went up out of Egypt—he and his wife and all that was his, and Lot with him—into the Negev. 2 And Abram was very rich with livestock, with silver, and with gold. 3 He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Heap-of-Ruins, 4 to the place of the altar which he had made there at the beginning. And there Abram called on Yehovah’s name. 5 And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, herds, and tents.

6 And the land couldn’t support them, to stay together, because their possessions were so great that they couldn’t stay together. 7 And there was a dispute between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in the land at that time.

8 And Abram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no dispute between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are relatives. 9 Isn’t the whole land in front of you? Please separate from me. If you go to the left, then I will go to the right. If you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere (before Yehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah), like the garden of Yehovah, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Tzo’ar. 11 So Lot chose all the plain of the Jordan for himself. And Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves, each man from the other. 12 And Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot settled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent as far as Sodom. 13 Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against Yehovah.

14 And Yehovah said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Please lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, to the north and to the south and to the east and to the Sea, 15 for I will give all the land which you see to you and to your offspring until a distant age. 16 And I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could also be counted. 17 Get up! Walk through the land in its length and in its width; for I will give it to you.”

18 And Abram moved his tent, and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre*, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yehovah.
