Is the War between Israel and Hamas Mentioned in Bible Prophecy?

When war erupted between Israel and Hamas, Christians around the world began to wonder: Is this the beginning of the end?

World Map

The Bible contains many prophecies about the end of this age and the return of Jesus Christ. Many of these prophecies foretell specific events that will happen in the land of Israel, so Israel has always been of great interest to people who study Bible prophecy.

But let’s be real: you really don’t know much about Bible prophecy, so you aren’t sure what to believe.

The only way for you to really understand what is happening in the world right now, is to take time to study prophecy and really understand it.

But there are a few things I can show you in the Bible right now that will help you understand what is happening right now in Israel.

1. This is NOT the End of the World—Yet

In Matthew 24, Jesus gave a sequence of events that would happen before He returned. The very first sign was about a major deception in the name of Christ:

Mathew 24:3-5:

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

Jesus is warning about people who will come in His name. These people will claim to be Christians, but they will deceive people.

If we compare this to the parallel prophecy in Revelation 6:1-2, we see that the leader of this deception will go out “conquering and to conquer.”

The first sign of the end of the age will be something that looks like a great revival of Christianity, with an influential leader who will wage war in the name of Christ. So far, at the end of 2023, this has not happened yet.

So when you read in Matthew 24:6 about “wars and rumors of wars,” you need to understand that the wars and rumors of wars that Jesus was specifically speaking about will come after this major deception in the name of Christ that will look like a great revival of Christianity.

Yes, we already hear about wars and rumors of wars. But we can’t just match what we see to Bible prophecies without understanding the sequence of events.

Now let’s get clear about Israel.

2. The Jews Are Only Part of Israel

Most people who are talk about end-time prophecy just assume that the Jews who are living in Israel now are the same as the ancient Israelites. Well, that is partially true—but not completely.

The Jews are just a small part of the Israelites. A long time ago there were 12 tribes of Israel. After King Solomon died—about 3,000 years ago—the Israelites had an argument and they divided into two separate kingdoms. You can read about this in 1 Kings 12.

After that time, there were two groups: 10 Tribes in the north called the Kingdom of Israel, and the Jews in the south called the Kingdom of Judah.

The Jews in Israel today are only a small part of the Israelites. The other 10 tribes were taken away from their land a long time ago and never returned. Many of the prophecies about Israel are about the 10 lost tribes—not the Jews—so unless you know where the rest of the Israelites are today, you won’t be able to understand the end-time prophecies about Israel.

In the End-Time Prophecy Challenge I explain the prophecies that show where all of the Israelites are today.

3. Israel Has Not Returned Yet

There are people all over the internet saying that the return of the Jews to the land of Israel was a fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

Well, it did fulfill a prophecy—but not the prophecies that most people are talking about.

For example, look at Ezekiel 37:21. This is a scripture that many people say has been fulfilled:

“Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land”

If you read that verse all by itself, it sounds like it has been fulfilled. But to really understand what this prophecy is talking about, you need to read the whole thing.

Look at the next verse:

“and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again.” (verse 22)

This is talking about the 10 Lost Tribes being reunited with the Jews. If you know where the 10 Lost Tribes are today, then you will know clearly that this has not happened yet. The Jews also know that this has not happened yet. But most people just read right over this without understanding what it is talking about.

Now let’s continue reading:

“They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.” (verse 23)

Does this describe the people living in Israel today? Are they a holy, righteous nation that follows God? Not at all! This is talking about a future time. This has not happened yet.

The next verse is even more clear:

David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.” (verse 24)

Has King David been resurrected from the dead? Is he the king over Israel? Not yet. This has not happened yet. And if this prophecy doesn’t make any sense to you, then you really need to study the Bible, because this was the main thing Jesus talked about when He was on earth.

The return of Israel that is prophesied again and again in the Bible will not happen until after the Great Tribulation. If you have a clear understanding of the sequence of end-time events, you won’t be misled by people who claim to understand Bible prophecy but really don’t.
